Laurie Rawlinson Evans loves writing—how a story evolves, is put together, how the words evoke emotion, and how they sound when read aloud. But she wanted a career in Exotic Animal Medicine until introduced to forensic science after finishing her degree in Zoology. Laurie then spent thirty years as a criminalist, most as a specialist in Forensic Serology.
When that was enough, she focused on family. Laurie has always been an avid reader and enjoys a wide range of fiction and nonfiction. As a writer, she prefers the fantasy genre, and channeling the world of Akira Muro continues to fascinate.
Laurie also loves to travel and considers herself fortunate to have been to eleven countries, at current count, and much of the United States. Some of the best trips have combined travel with SCUBA diving.
She lives in Northern California. With both her husband and herself raised in military families, and her husband a former Marine, Laurie appreciates the dedication and risk of our armed forces. Although her stories take place in fictional worlds, they often involve peacekeepers, defenders, and the complex issues of justice.
The Mountain Shadows series revolves around one powerful woman’s life spent among military forces in the defense of her country and her people. The short story prequel, The Lost, won an award in a Writer’s Digest Annual Short Story Competition, leading to the publication of the first two novels in the series, The Black Spirit, and Beyond the Veil. The third novel is underway.
